New Youth Centre In Wolves

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
Just to keep everyone up to date the regular opning time for the Youth Club will be every Fri 6pm-8pm.
Current facilities include 2 tennis tables, 2 table top football, pool table, 2 basketball baskets (full size snooker table arriving shortly). At present the club is free.
To make this project a success we will need the support of responsible volunteers and the whole of the local community.
We also need the help of people who have knowledge of grants/funding and setting up other projects. Otherwise we will be back to square one. There are many who do not want such a centre and would like us to fail. It could end up being a very short-lived centre.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

Exposé: Project Naad's Anti-Gurmat Views on Relationships

In the past year or so a website has emerged called “Project Naad” (www.projectnaad.com). This website claims to be a charitable organization which is committed to “producing high quality freely distributable content for propagating the Sikh way of life.” Project Naad states that the content of their website is intended for university students, Gurdwaras and Interfaith work. The same group are very much linked or part of the Sikh Student Camp since 2007.

The Project Naad team members are sewadars at the Chigwell Sikh Student Camp and were even invited to do a presentation to campers about Project Naad mission at last week’s Sikh Student Camp 2008.

Panthic Weekly last month exposed Project Naad for supporting Dera Jhoota Sauda and writing against the Sikh Panth who is seeking justice. It is apparent that Project Naad is doing anti-Panthic and anti-Gurmat parchaar in the guise of Sikhi. This week Panthic Weekly exposes some of the subtle anti-Gurmat propaganda contained within the Project Naad leaflets, articles and statements from them on forums. Panthic Weekly presents the objectionable statements written by the Project Naad website with replies from the Gurmat perspective (kindly provided by ‘Sikh Answers’ and others):

PROJECT NAAD’S VIEW ON RELATIONSHIPS OUTSIDE MARRIAGE

"Whether a person chooses to date or not, is up to the individual. The important thing is the intention behind a relationship. Is the intention love or lust?"
(Project Naad “Common Misconceptions By Baptised Sikhs” Leaflet)

“2. Is it okay for young Sikhs to have girl friends/ boy friends? Give reasons for why / why not?
-- This issue is often blown well out of proportion. Of course, it is acceptable for a Sikh to have a girl/boy friend. However, the relationship should not be sexual.”
(Project Naad “Workshop Worksheet 10 - Answers” on “Marriage and Relationships”)

Gurbani says:

“The eyes should not gaze upon the beauty of another women.”
(Ang 274)

Friendship with the opposite sex is not prohibited. However, to go beyond the lines of innocent friendship would be contrary to Gurmat.

"Men should look at the opposite gender as mothers, sisters and daughters, (women should look at the opposite gender as fathers, brothers and sons)."
(Bhâî Gurdâs: Vâr 29/ Paurî 11)

There is no if or but about dating or seeing the opposite gender in any other light other than one’s own sister or brother. Intimate relationships at any level are harmful – whether it is physical intimacy or emotional one.

PROJECT NAAD’S VIEW ON FLIRTING, KISSING AND HUGGING GIRLS OR BOYS

“3. If you do have a girl friend/ boy friend what is acceptable behaviour e.g. going out together, kissing, hugging etc.

-- Sex before marriage is the only thing which is not allowed. Doing anything you would do with your friends of the same sex is acceptable like going to a restaurant, cinema, bowling, swimming, town etc.”
(Project Naad “Workshop Worksheet 10 - Answers” on “Marriage and Relationships”)

“12. What do you think about the Indian Love Manual?
-- This is an excellent manual to the sexual arts which lead to heightened levels of consciousness when used by two spiritual beings with the correct consciousness.”
(Project Naad “Workshop Worksheet 10 - Answers” on “Marriage and Relationships”)

"Consider another's daughter as your daughter. Consider another woman as your mother. Love only your own wife. Such a person is the Guru's disciplined Sikh."

(Note: The Guru's instructions also apply to females and who would consider another person's son as their own son and another man as their father etc)

Guru Gobind Singh Ji says:

"Love your own wife more and more, but never touch another woman’s bed either by mistake or even in dream. Know that the love of another’s wife is like a sharp dagger".
(Dasam Granth, Part-11, p-842)

Gurbani says:

"For a moment of sexual pleasure, you shall suffer in pain for millions of days. For an instant, you may savour pleasure, but afterwards, you shall regret it, again and again. ||1||"
(Ang 405)

Intimate relationships at any level are harmful – whether it is physical intimacy or emotional one. Intimacy on any level (physical or emotional) should be restricted to one's husband or wife, who are one's committed life partners. If you send texts, emails or chat to someone on MSN or over the phone and you feel embarrassed and ashamed if someone else reads the text, email or heard the conversation, then that tells you that you shouldn't be doing it. One should remember that God is always watching us and therefore live in the fear & love of God.

When you form a friendship - be it a friendship with the same sex or a platonic one to a member of the opposite sex (or if you’re married think about the relationship that you have with your spouse). They usually have the same foundation which is you sharing something in common with that person which helps the relationship flourish. It could be having the same lame sense of humour, your passion of eating and burping together…whatever - its that ‘something in common’ which lets you form a close relationship.

So if the starting of all three relationships is the same what stops a platonic friendship turning into romance or lust? After all it’s based on the same ingredients – you’ll grow to admire, depend and trust each other – something you would also hope to share with your prospective partner. It’s so easy for it to turn into romance that it’s best not to dwell on it in the first place. “One ounce of prevention is better than a pound’s cure.”

"O sexual desire, you lead the mortals to hell; you make them wander in reincarnation through countless species. You cheat the consciousness, and pervade the three worlds. You destroy meditation, penance and virtue. But you give only shallow pleasure, while you make the mortals weak and unsteady; you pervade the high and the low. Your fear is dispelled in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, through the Protection and Support of the Lord. ||46||"
(Ang 1358)

PROJECT NAAD’s VIEW ON HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGES

"Marriage in Sikhism is the merger of two souls into one. So in theory there would be no reason why a homosexual marriage would be prohibited in Sikhism. However as with all the other major 'faith' communities this is a topic of continuing debate."
(Project Naad “Sikhism & Sexuality” Leaflet)

Those who have an issue with sexuality preference should be encouraged to direct their mind away from flirting with their own sexuality. Let it go. When ever these thoughts come up, they should direct their mind to meditate on "WaheGuru". People should be encouraged to develop their capacity as a "God man" rather than a "gay man".
There is no such thing as same sex marriages in the Sikh Gurdwara.
According to the Sikh Rehit Maryada, the Anand Karaj (Sikh marriage) can only be between a Sikh man and woman only. Sexual relationship can only be between the couple married under the Anand Karaj maryada. Denouncing the practice of same-sex marriages, Jathedar of Akal Takht, issued a directive with the seal of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib that prohibited any Gurdwara in the world to hold such ceremonies. Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti described same sex marriages as an ‘anti-Gurmat’ trend that had no place in Sikhism.

"He alone is a Sikh, a friend, a relative and a sibling, who walks in the Way of the Guru's Will. One who walks according to his own will, O Siblings of Destiny, suffers separation from the Lord, and shall be punished. Without the True Guru, peace is never obtained, O Siblings of Destiny; again and again, he regrets and repents. ||1||"
(Ang 601)

Guru Sahib gave Sikhs Hukam (Order). Hukam and Rehit (discipline) put boundaries on our behaviour. We all need discipline in life. Some may say why we do you stop people from smoking, you do not believe they are equal to you? But reality is everyone is equal, but as a Gursikhs, we choose a 'Niraala Panth' (a Distinct Path). The 'Niraala panth' is defined by Rehit and Hukam.

Marriage is two souls merging into one. However even this union which is not based on Kaam (lust), but love, respect and within Gurmat, even that is also temporary. The true Union is between a person and Akaal - this is permanent. When one achieves that union, everything else is put into perspective and is incomparable. Even if a person is naturally homosexual, as one cannot become one, or a person is heterosexual and full of lust (Kaam) or not, and lives as a true disciple of Guru, all of them should search for this 'true union', because without it there is no way to quench their thirst. To obtain this union, one has to forsake all, and live in the discipline of Gurmat Rehit (discipline in accordance to the Guru's Way), and have a longing for the Darshan, Blessed Vision, of Waheguru.

Panthic Weekly urges the UK Sangat to be cautious of anti-Panthic and anti-Gurmat groups targeting the youth and wider Sangat through discreet Parchaar. Project Naad supports Snaatan view of Sikhi that is propagated and supported by UK Nangs (Neo-Nihang) and the RSS.

In addition to this, the same questionable website has shown open support and is part of the controversial UK Sikh Student Camp (Chigwell, England) that has faced many issues such as promoting watered down version of Sikhi, serious allegations of misconduct with campers, over-friendliness of camp sevadars with campers, and controversial anti-panthic individuals funding the camp. Project Naads statements and parchaar on sexuality and relationships has exposed its true face.

Neo-Nihang Poohla Burnt to Death. Justice served !

Badly burnt Ajit Poohla on ventilator at PGI Chandigarh

Amritsar Sahib (KP) – Ajit Phoola, the notorious pseudo-Nihang, who is responsible for a number of murders, rapes, and other atrocious crimes, was burnt alive by two prisoners inside the Amritsar Central Jail. He was pronounced dead Friday morning at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, after being admitted in critical condition on Thursday.

Self-proclaimed Nihang Leader

The notorious Ajit Poohla, a much despised figure in the Sikh community, was a well known police cat (undercover informant) who was in custody awaiting trial for a long list of charges, such as land grabbing, drug trafficking, and the heinous crimes of kidnapping, rape, and murder of Sikh Nationalist families.

While the press always identified him as the head of the Tarna Dal Nihang Organization, both Tarna Dal and Buddha Dal have denied such claims and alleged that Poohla was a high level police informant in Nihang uniform who had been tarnishing the Sikh image.

When the Sikh nationalist & freedom movement was at its peak in the 1980s and 1990s, Poohla enjoyed state sponsored high security with over 40+ official gunmen armed with state of the art weapons. He was often seen rubbing shoulders with political leaders, including chief ministers, and senior IAS and IPS officers. His notoriety grew mainly during the Beant Sinh and Akali Badal administrations.

Attacked in Jail

The incident began when two other prisoners confronted Poohla on Thursday while he was enjoying his mid-day meal. The prisoners, armed with a container of diesel, approached Poohla around 11:30am, initiated an argument in which they suddenly splashed the fuel on Poohla’s upper body and lit him on fire with matchsticks.

Noticing the common, the prison staff attempted to put out the fire that was quicly burning Poohla's upper torso, but by the time the fire was extinguished, over seventy percent of his body had been severely burnt, including much of his scalp and facial hair.

It is being reported that when these individuals, from Sikh families, learnt of Poohla’s atrocities, they were profusely upset, and immediately began to chalk out a plan to attack the culprit.

The morning before the attack, the duo obtained the diesel fuel from a nearby generator that was connected to the prison Gurdwara. A little before noon, the pair decided to approach Poohla in ward no. 9 and initiated a quarrel, resulting in Phoola being set on fire.

Poohla was immediately taken to the local Civil Hospital but then later transferred over to PGI Chandigarh, due to the seriousness of his burns. He was declared dead the next day.

The duo that accomplished the attack have been identified as Navtej Singh of Batala and Harchand Singh of Marri-Kamboki, Amritsar.

Justice Served

Overall there is a sense of relief amongst the Sikh community that a murderous thug who had terrorized others has now been repaid in kind--justice has been served.

Several Sikh organizations have openly declared that they would financially assist the legal cases for the two individuals who had brought Poohla to justice.

Dal Khalsa secretary Kanwarpal Singh and SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli stated : “An infamous Nihang and police cat, Poohla killed many innocents. He grabbed land, raped women and committed human rights excesses during the period of militancy and even later. The worst inhuman act he committed was killing four women, all relatives of Balwinder Singh Jattana, a Babbar Khalsa militant, in 1991."

Neo-Nihang Thug

The infamous neo-Nihang, son of a Naamdhari Kooka, was initially known as Jaswinder Singh ‘good-fighter’. He became involved in criminal activities at a young age, participating in petty crimes in nearby villages. Impressed with his corrupt tactics, Jaswinder was later recruited by the local Senior Superintendent of Police, and later became known as Poohla.

The self proclaimed Nihang leader, who lived the life of a tyrannical thug, is finally dead. For the families of his victims, the news might be of some relief, but for others it is too little too late.

It was Poohla who was responsible for sadisticly eliminating almost the entire family of Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana, a Sikh Nationalist working under the Babbar Khalsa International.

Merciless killing of BKI Leader’s Family

The Sikh community has not forgotten that on the night of August 30th, 1991, Poohla, with the assistance of the Punjab Police, mercilessly killed Bhai Jatana’s 80 year old grandmother Dwarkee Kaur, Aunt Jasmair Kaur, 13 year old cousin Manpreet Kaur and his 5 year old nephew Simranjeet Singh. Bhai Jatana’s father identified the killers as individuals dressed as Nihangs. Ironically, Bhai Jatana’s family was also said to have been burnt by Poohla. The family of Bhai Joga Singh Khanpur and many others were also killed in a similar manner.

For the past two decades, Poohla was also involved in drug trafficking and illegal occupation of public and private lands. He had illegally seized several Gurdwaras in Punjab and used them as centers of criminal activity. In 2005, he was thrown out of many of them due to the efforts of Col. HS Sandhu, of the Majha Human Rights Front.

When the freedom movement was at its peak in the state, Poohla enjoyed a high security cover of 42 official gunmen armed with 77 sophisticated weapons. He was known to flaunt snapshots of him in the company of senior political party leaders, including a former chief minister, and senior IAS and IPS officers.

Panthic Weekly News Bureau

Exactly 17 years ago, on August 30th, 1991, Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana's family was brutally murdered and their bodies burnt by Ajit Poohla and his gang of criminals.

Bhai Joga Singh's family including two infants, were also killed in the same merciless manner by Poohla and his thugs.

Intoxicated with alcohol, Poohla and his gangsters on stage with dancing girls.

The Sikh Gurus were not like normal Hunters!

The hunting of a wild pig in Wadali (Amritsar) by Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj:

The incident has been described in “Tareekh Guru Khalsa at pages 488 - 489). One landlord (farmer) came to Guru ji and reported that there was one very dangerous wild pig in his sugarcane field. Since last few months this was a burdon to people of this area, it destroyed their crops regularly. Many people tried to kill it but failed. Guru ji along with Panda Khan, Bidi Chand and Bhalan went for hunting this pig and killed it. Farmers were very pleased at this. At the time of his death this pig’s soul started singing praises of Guru Ji. On being asked by Bhai Bidi Chand, the soul replied:

“I used to be Sikh of Guru Arjun Dev ji and used to live in Beerh Baba Budha Sahib ji (near jhabal in Amritsar; now there is beautiful Gurudwara built there, the sewa of this Gurudwara was undertaken by Baba Kharak Singh Ji, a well revered Sikh octogenarian saint) to serve Baba Budha Ji. When Mata Ji (wife of Guru Arjun Dev Ji) went in horse baggi to Baba Budha ji with a wish of son, Baba ji said “Guru ke mahala noo kidron bhaajarh pai hai”. I did not like this comment of Baba Budha Ji; I got upset with Baba ji and passed some hot remarks to Baba Budha Ji. He said, “Soor vangu ghur-ghur karda firda hai, soor hoinga”. Means you are groaning like a pig, and will become pig. Then I was scared and held the feet of Baba ji, and cried for being freed from pig “Juni”. Then he blessed me, “The great son from the same Mata Ganga will free you from pig’s body and will grant you Mukti (from cycle of birth and death).”

According to the above account Guru Ji killed the above pig to grant Mukati to the former Sikh of Guru-Ghar and he did it according to promise given by Baba Budha Sahib Ji. This hunting was by no means to eat pig’s meat. It may be added here that Baba Budha Ji was honoured with service to Six Guruji,s and was loved very much by all of them.

Hunting of a lion in Dhaulpur (Rajasthan) by Sri Guru Hargobind Singh Ji:

History tells that Guru ji had to stay overnight in Dhoulpur on his way to Gwalier along with King Jahangir. The residents of Dhoulpur complained to King Jahagir about a dangerous lion living in a forest near Dhaulpur. They requested that they may be freed from a constant danger from this lion by killing the lion. Jahangir prepared his men for this hunting and took Guru Ji with him. Inspite of all efforts by King’s persons the lion some how progressed near to king himself, then king asked for help from Guru Ji. Guru ji without any delay came ahead to combat the lion, and asked the lion, “Kal yamun! I give first chance to you to attack on me, use your full strength so that you don’t repent it later on”. The lion attacked first and Guru ji saved himself and then attacked with his sword and killed the lion.

Later the King and others asked Guru ji about the lion being called as “kal yamun” by him. Then Guru ji answered, “I know him from many “Yugas” and he was waiting for me here since long time. In “Doapar Yuga” when Krishna Ji killed Kans, and then defeated Jarasand for seventeen times. Eiteenth time Kal Yamun abbetted Jarasand against Krishna Ji. Krishna Ji then had to leave Mathura and take shelter in the cave of Rishi Manchkund. When Krishna Ji reached the cave of this rishi, he was asleep. Rishi Manchkunda had a blessing that just by looking at someone, he could burn him. Krishan ji put his safron coloured cloth on the Rishi and hid himself in the cave. Manchkunda followed Krishna ji to the cave, and thinking that the person under the cloth was Krishna ji, he woke up Manchkunda rishi. When manchkunda looked at him, the Kal yamun got burnt to death. Manchkunda repented at this death and asked the way to be freed from the sin which he earned by killing Kal Yamun. Krishna ji arranged a great “Yagia” (it was a religious act in Doapar) by building 68 “Kunda,s”. Upon being requested by Manchkunda rishi that Kal Yamun might also be granted “Mukti”, Krishna ji said,” I will grant him Mukti in Kalyuga”.

So according to the promise given by Krishna ji in Doyapar Yuga, Guru Hargobind Singh Ji granted Mukti to Kal Yamun. At present there is a Gurudwara at the place where Guru Ji had hunted the lion in Dhaulpur. This hunting was done near to Hindu temple of Manchkunda. This place is situated about 3 km west to Dhoulpur city and the Gurudwara’s name is “Gurudwara shri Sher Shikaar Sahib”. Many of the Krishna’s followers in Rajasthan (India) regularly arrange fairs at this Gurudwara and sing praises of Guru ji, they consider him reincarnation of Krishna ji.

Shri Guru Hari Rai Sahib Ji — a strange hunter

At page 594 of Tareekh Khalsa it is mentioned that Shri Guru Hari Rai Ji was very compassionate and merciful at heart. He used to do hunting but he had issued special instructions to his men about not killing any animal. He used to catch the old, week and sick animals. He had kept hundreds of such wild animals, the proper care as far as their treatment and food was concerned used to be undertaken, and then the animals used to be left free in forest after some time. This is also supported by Mahima Prakash (Sakhi 167; pages 545-546, vol. 2), as it is written there:

“Pun Daiyal Shikaar chad aave, sikh surbir sang gur dhave, ban pasu pankhi khed bas kare, kou na maare, jeewat maare, grahe mo rakh palana hoi, khan pan dukh tine na koi, bhaye ikatra kaii lakh hazaar, pasu pankhi bagh bilian siar.”

The writer of Mahima Prakash is of opinion that whenever Guru ji killed some animal it was for relieving animals from extreme pains or for spiritual freedom of the animals considering their good deed during previous births.

“Jab kabhu Shikar kash mare, mano mukat karta ko mare”

Once Guru ji saw a rattle snake who was in extreme pain and in old age. He was being eaten by ants and was shaking his head and tail with pain — as if he was requesting Guru ji for help. Guru ji killed this snake with arrow and relieved him from pains as well as cycle of death and birth (Mahima prakash, vol. 2 page 563).

Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji hunted a rabbit near Nandedh (presently known as Shri Hazoor Sahib Ji):

Once a rabbit was running across a field near to the place where Guru ji was sitting. Guru ji killed the rabbit with an arrow. The rabbit finally fell and died at the place, where now Gurudwara Shikaar Ghaat has been built. On being asked by Sikhs, Guruji revealed the details. Guru ji said the rabbit used to be Moola Khatari during time of Guru Nanak Dev ji. Guru ji once went to his house to meet him. Moola hid himself in his house and told his wife to tell lie to Guru ji that Moola was not at home. As Moola’s wife told the lie to Guru ji, Guru ji (knowing the truth) said a salok:

“nal kirada dosati koorhe koorhi pai,Maran na jape moolia, aave kite thai.” – False is friendship with the false and greedy. False is its foundation. O moollah no one knows where death will strike.
Ang 1412 in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji)

After this Guru ji left his home, Moola got bitten by a snake and died. People put Moola’s body on a cot and brought to Guru Nanak Dev ji, and requested that Guru Ji forgive him. Then Guru ji said he will have to enter different “Juni,s” due to his acts, but I will grant him “Mukati” in my 10th swaroop in Kalyuga.

Mahima Prakash and most of other sakhis give detail about the above hunting of the rabbit by Guru ji. None of them says that Guru ji ate this rabbit’s meat after killing him. It is mentioned in all of these that Guru ji killed this rabbit to free Moola as per Guru ji’s promise and grant him “Mukati”.

We also have many other sakhis about of Guru Gobind Singh ji like –

(A.) Mukati of a bear who used to distributor of Prashad in Guru Arjun Dev Ji’s darbar.

(B.) Hunting of a “Ghoghar” who used to be king. He became ghogar due to curse of a virgin girl to whom he had raped.

(C.) Hunting of a Crow, who used to be sewadar in Langar of Guru Gobind Singh ji and used to remain upset and irritated all the time with sangat while doing sewa. Due to curse of a Sikh of Guru ji he had to become crow.

(D.) Hunting of a Quail (I think “Tittar” in punjabi) who used to be a farmer. The farmer had taken loan while swearing by the name of Guru ji that he would return the loan to other person. He did not fulfill his promise. So Guru ji caught him, removed his wings and left before a falcon (this falcon was a trader who had given loan to the farmer) to balance the account of that birth, and fulfilling his duty as witness (because the farmer had sworn by the name of Guru ji while getting loan).

(E.) Removing a doubt of Pandit keshav Dutt at Naina Devi Mountain:

Guru ji went on hunting and killed many animals. Guru ji brought and put all these dead animals near to “Havan Kund”. Pandit Keshav Dutt was surprised at this act and objected to it. As Pandit Keshav Dutt questioned Guru ji about killing all those innocent animals, Guru ji revived all those animals and let them walk in different directions back to jungle. Then Guru ji explained to Pandit Keshav Dutt that he searched for these souls (animals) to whom he wanted to grant “Mukti” (which is attainable with Jap-tap otherwise). Now he would have to find them again, because they have missed one great chance of salvation (Mukti) due to Pandit Keshav’s objection. Pandit Keshav understood the real motive, and asked to be forgiven for his ignorance.

As is mentioned in Gurubani, “satguru sikh ko ji naal saware, satguru sikh ka halat palat saware” (sukhmani sahib ji). Means Guru Ji always helps his Sikh for betterment of his both worlds — this world (Halat) and next world (Parlok or Palat). Even when Sikh enters different “junis” (of lower animals) due to his misdeeds, Guru Ji has mercy on him. He finds him in that “juni” and grants him a stage which otherwise is attained by rishis after spending centuries of meditation and innumerable other religious acts.

It is not justice with our Great Guru ji’s to say that they killed animals to eat their meat. When someone says Guruji ate meat, he commits a sin of blaming guru ji of “Avar updese aap na kare”. Because Guru ji in their bani have prohibited clearly the eating of meat. They never allowed meat in their Langars. We can find some historical Gurudwaras with their own dairy farms and agricultural land attached to them because wheat, rice, vegetables and milk products used to be produced in them for being used in Langar. None of Gurudwara has Goat farm or poultry farm attached to it !! If Guru ji used to eat meat they would have raised these animals too.
