Sacked porter to appeal

A hospital porter from Salford, sacked after a row over a prayer room crucifix, is to appeal.

Joseph Protano, 54, a Roman Catholic, worked at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital for two years where he regularly attended the hospital prayer room.

Mr Protano, from Salford, Greater Manchester, became annoyed when Muslim visitors repeatedly covered up statues of the Virgin Mary and the crucifix while they prayed.

On one occasion there was a "confrontation" between Mr Protano and three Muslim visitors after the porter came into the prayer room to uncover the statues.

The police were called to the incident on November 30 last year, but have decided not to take further action.

However, Mr Protano's employers, Medirest, who supply staff to the hospital, suspended him on December 4 and he was sacked last week on the grounds of gross misconduct.

His case has now been taken up by his union, Unison, who have launched an internal appeal to his employers on his behalf on the grounds of racial and religious discrimination.

Mr Protano protests that he respects all religions but as a Christian, covering up statues and crucifixes offends him.

No date has yet been set for the appeal and Mr Protano said he is not allowed to comment before the hearing.

A spokeswoman for Medirest said: "I can confirm we have undertaken a detailed and robust disciplinary process with a porter working at Manchester Royal Children's Hospital. It is not our company policy to make comment on individual cases."

Frontline Comments:

Its a prayer room for all, not just muslims so what right do they have to offend other religions in the room. I rate the man for making a stand, he should take this to the top!

Bloodied trader fights off robbers

DEFIANT: Attack victim Mohammed Aslam, left, and shop owner Khurram Sultan
DEFIANT: Attack victim Mohammed Aslam, left, and shop owner Khurram Sultan

A SHOPWORKER was left covered in blood after being beaten with metal bars as he fought off masked robbers.

Mohammad Aslam had blood oozing from from his head and nose after the attack at K's Convenience, Bold Street, Accrington.

And he was forced to bang on a neighbour's door for help after his actions forced the robbers to flee.

Mr Aslam said: "I was scared and shocked and I thought What can I do?' "Then I picked up a chair and ran towards them to try to fight them off.

"What else could I do? You can't hand over the money, can you?.

"We work hard all day to make that money."Mr Aslam, who moved to Accrington from Pakistan two months ago, was standing behind the counter when the three men burst in, at 8.45pm on Monday.

The 44-year-old has worked in the shop since Khurram Sultan, 27, of the Queensgate area of Burnley, bought it a month ago.

Both men have vowed not to be beaten by the robbers and said they will continue to work in the shop as usual.

The attack comes just as Mr Sultan was due to install CCTV into his new shop premises.

Two of the robbers were carrying 1.5ft metal bars the other a baseball bat, but despite the threats of violence Mr Aslam refused to open the till.

As Mr Aslam ran towards them, one of the hit him across the head with a metal bar, forcing him to drop the chair as he tried to defend himself against another blow.

The masked men ran out of the shop and down Bold Street away from their dark coloured getaway car, which had been parked outside the shop.

Mr Aslam was then attacked again as he banged on the neighbour's house for help. He suffered head injuries and was treated at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

He said: "They ran into the shop and said they wanted money from the till. I locked it and I saw the chair in the corner and picked it up.

"They parked the car in front of the shop but they ran down the street.

"I ran outside to get help from the next door neighbour to get help, then they got into their car.

"It was so quick, it was all over in about five minutes or so."

Yvonne Ross, 39, of Bold Street, Accrington, who opened her door to help Mr Aslam said blood was running down his face and nose.

She said: "There was this banging on the door - it was louder than when coppers knock at the door.

"My daughter was upstairs and said there was a riot going on outside "She told me not to open the door.

"He kept banging at the door and my son Anthony Short was behind me when I opened it.

"The man was bleeding from the head and the nose.

"He doesn't speak very good English and didn't know what to do.

"I called the police for him.

"There was blood everywhere."

Mr Sultan, who bought the shop after selling a petrol station he owned in Leeds Road, Nelson, said: "Last Saturday there was a car, similar to the one used in the attack parked outside the shop.

"There were four Asian men in it.

"What can you do? Life has to go on and you carry on.

"We will just have to take extra care and have better protection."

Frontline comments:

If i owned a shop i would keep a baseball bat and knife behind the counter, people rely on the police. But what they dont understand is the police come after the incident and you might not even live to give a statement. This man is lucky he didnt die from the bar shots to his head!

Are Young Palestinians being murdered for their organs?

Israel on Tuesday tacitly admitted that doctors at the Israeli forensic
institute at Abu Kabir had extracted the vital organs of three Palestinian
teenage children killed by the Israeli army nearly ten days ago.

Israeli Minister of Health Nessim Dahhan said in response to a question by
Arab Knesset Member Ahmed Teibi that he couldn't deny that organs of
Palestinian youths and children killed by the Israeli forces were taken out
for transplants or scientific research.

"I couldn't say for sure that something like that (taking out the organs) didn't happen."

Teibi said he had received credible evidence proving that Israeli doctors
at the forensic institute extracted such vital organs as the heart,
kidneys, and liver from the bodies of Palestinian youths and children
killed by the Israeli army in Gaza and the West bank.

The Israeli authorities normally detain the bodies of martyred Palestinians
for a few days without any explanation.

The Israeli army on 30 December killed three Palestinian boys, aged 14-15
near Khan Younis in unclear circumstances.

The army issued conflicting reports on the killing, while Palestinian
sources charged that Israeli troops murdered the three unarmed boys in cold
blood.

The bodies of the three boys were handed over to the Palestinians for
burial on 6 January.

However, shortly before burial, Palestinian medical authorities examined
the bodies and found out that the main vital organs were absent from their
bodies.

The Israeli media has nearly completely ignored the affair!

U.S. Troops Asked If They Would Shoot American Citizens

Iraq vet exposes how he was trained to round up Americans in martial law exercise, asked if he would kill his own friends and family

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet Monday, February 4th, 2008

U.S. troops are being trained to conduct round-ups, confiscate guns and shoot American citizens, including their own friends and family members, as part of a long-standing program to prepare for the declaration of martial law, according to a soldier who recently returned from Iraq.

We received an email from "Scott", a member of a pipefitters union that runs an apprenticeship program called Helmets To Hard Hats, which according to its website, "Is a national program that connects National Guard, Reserve and transitioning active-duty military members with quality career training and employment opportunities within the construction industry."

Scott writes that his company hired a soldier who had recently returned from Iraq, who told him that U.S. troops were being quizzed on whether or not they would be prepared to shoot their own friends and family members during a national state of emergency in America.

"I have become very close to this young man and have gained his respect and trust," writes Scott. "I want you to know that he informed me about one particular training exercise his superiors made them perform. It was concerning the rounding up of American citizens that disobey any type of martial law or in other words any type of infringement on our freedoms."
"He was asked if he could shoot his friends or family members if ordered to do so. At the time he said he could," writes Scott.

Scott says that the soldier later "had time to clear his head" and realize the truth, recanting his vow to kill his own countrymen if ordered to do so.

The issue of whether U.S. troops would be prepared to round-up, disarm and if necessary shoot Americans who disobeyed orders during a state of martial law is a question that military chiefs have been attempting to answer for at least 15 years.

Its known origins can be traced back to an October 1994 Marine questionnaire out of the Twentynine Palms Marine Base in California. Recruits were asked 46 questions, including whether they would kill U.S. citizens who refused to surrender their firearms.

Documentary film maker Alex Jones brought to light similar training programs that were taking place across the country in the late 90's which revolved around U.S. Marines being trained to arrest American citizens and take them to internment camps.

During one such program in Oakland California, dubbed "Operation Urban Warrior," Marines refused to answer if they would target American citizens for gun confiscation if ordered to do so.

During hurricane Katrina, National Guard units were ordered to confiscate guns belonging to New Orleans residents.

As we first exposed in May 2006, Clergy Response Teams are being trained by the federal government and FEMA to "quell dissent" and pacify citizens to obey the government in the event of a declaration of martial law.

Pastors and other religious representatives are being taught to become secret police enforcers who teach their congregations to "obey the government" in preparation for the implementation of martial law, property and firearm seizures, mass vaccination programs and forced relocation.

Many scoffed at our original story, which was based on the testimony of a whistleblower who was asked to participate in the program. Claims that the story was a conspiracy theory soon evaporated when a mainstream KSLA news report confirmed the existence of the program.

The experiences of U.S. troops in the worst areas of Iraq, where soldiers are ordered to go door to door and arrest all men of military age as well as confiscate their weapons, is a mere portend of what is being planned for America if these training programs ever come to fruition.

How comes the soldiers are allowed to protect themselves from the public, but the public aint allowed to protect themselves from the soldiers. Its just double standards!

Women trys taking Singhs Dastar off in restaurant

Hoboken, NJ (January 30, 2008) - A Sikh man was assaulted by a restaurant patron who tried to remove his turban in public on Tuesday evening. Before her arrest, Hansdip Singh's attacker told him that she had a problem with his turban and wanted him to remove it immediately.

Hansdip Singh had been dining at the Madison Grill in Hoboken, New Jersey on January 29, 2008. While standing in the restaurant, a woman behind him grabbed a hold of his turban and attempted to pry it from his head. She had almost succeeded by the time Hansdip turned around to confront her. When he did so, the woman remarked that she had a problem with "that stuff" on his head, and told him to "take it off." When Hansdip refused, the woman became more difficult, and the Hoboken Police Department was called in. Police officers arrested the woman on the spot, and have charged her with harassment and bias intimidation.

The Coalition commends the Hoboken Police Department for its quick response to the attack. We will work with the local country prosecutor to ensure the attack is prosecuted as a hate crime.

This is not the first hate attack against a Sikh in New Jersey. The Sikh Coalition's online database has logged 47 incidents of bias against Sikhs since September 11, 2001.

We urge all Sikhs to practice their faith fearlessly. If you or someone you know is a victim of bias harassment, please report it to legal@sikhcoalition.org.

Attack on Dera Chief

District police chief A.S. Chawala reveals the picture of Bakhsheesh Singh (inset), Nilokheri blast mastermind, to the media at the Mini- Secretariat in Karnal on Sunday evening.

The Punjab Police today came to the aid of their counterparts in Haryana and assisted the latter in their hunt to find former Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) terrorist Baksheesh Singh — the prime suspect behind the attempt on the life of Dera Sacha Sauda head Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Soon after the attack near Nilokheri in Karnal district of Haryana yesterday, both Punjab and Haryana have stepped up their vigil. The police raided several places in Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts. Special teams had also been sent to Uttar Pradesh, sources said.

A senior police official said a team comprising investigative officers of the Haryana police had arrived in Patiala last night. With the help of Punjab Police officials they conducted a combing operation in and around Patiala and in some nearby villages. These include Baksheesh Singh’s village Rago Majra and a religious place in the area.

In Sirhind the police scanned some villages, including Majri Akalian village. The police believes that the manner in which the explosive material was used to trigger an explosion in the spare tyre of the truck, it was clear that the job was that of a highly trained person. The police believes that the entire operation was masterminded by Baksheesh, who has been on bail since 2003.

Both Punjab and Haryana governments are keeping a close watch on the situation in the two states after angry dera supporters in their protest tried to block roads any many places in Haryana, including the national highway No. 1 in Ambala and Karnal. They had also set some vehicles on fire and resorted to violence.

PATIALA: The Haryana police failed to lay their hands on Baksheesh in their early morning swoop on his Raghomajra Colony residence.

A team of Haryana police headed by two DSPs conducted a raid on the residence of Baksheesh, originally hailing from Nizamniwala village, near Samana, at around 4.30 am but had to return empty handed. His wife Paramjit Kaur told the police that her husband had left for Nanded in Maharashtra on January 17. After this, the teams comprising two DSPs and 18-20 other officials subsequently conducted raids at some other places in the city.

The Haryana police, "it was learnt, was yet to ascertain whether he was involved in the blast or not"

Though said to be a terror outfit sympathiser, Baksheesh, sources said, he had distanced himself from the separatist movement during the past more than a decade. He had shifted his family from his native village and started life afresh in Patiala as a taxi driver.

Meanwhile, the Patiala police has thrown a security cordon around his house amid apprehensions that it might be attacked by dera chief’s followers.

The state police has launched a massive manhunt to nab Bakhsheesh Singh, the suspected mastermind behind the attack on Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The police said he was a former member of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF).

It also confirmed that RDX was used in the attack, in which no causality was reported. The explosive material, weighing about 2 kg, was set in the rear stepney of a 10-tyre truck passing alongside the chief’s cavalcade.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Karnal SSP A.S. Chawala said originally hailing from Samana in Patiala, Bakhsheesh was currently residing in Patiala town. Bakhsheesh had been released on bail in 2003.

His name was figured during the interrogation of the truck driver and cleaner, namely Swaran Singh and Mahinder Singh, who had allegedly executed the blast from the truck.

Chawala revealed that about five to six days back, the accused had reportedly cut his hair and beard.

Wanted in certain cases, the SSP said the alleged accused was directed to report at Kotwali police station in Patiala after every 15 days. He had last visited the police station on January 17.

The police was in touch with other states and had been raiding the probable hideouts of the prime accused. He, however, refused to furnish further details.

Chawala said the bomb was linked to the truck’s battery for detonation. The truck driver and cleaner tried to run away from the scene, but dera followers overpowered them and handed them over to the police.

Frontline Comments:

Is this Singhs name being mentioned, just due to an old vendetta?

Was the suspect’s interrogated or tortured?

During the raids did the police commit any crime?

How comes that rahim geeza is not in remand?
