Girl, five, drowned in packed pool after slipping away from mother in changing room

Tragic: Harjeet Kaur Rathor died at hospital after getting into difficulty in a leisure centre swimming pool
A five-year-old girl drowned in a packed swimming pool after slipping away from her mother who was getting dressed in a changing room, an inquest heard. Harjeet Kaur Rathor had been taken by her mother Kalwant to a paddling pool because she could not swim. But once back in the changing rooms, she suddenly discovered the child had gone.
A statement read to the hearing said she searched the area as well as the shower and drier rooms before hearing an alarm sounding. It was very loud, like a fire alarm,' she said. Mrs Rathor saw a crowd of people outside the changing rooms at the side of the pool in Doncaster. 'I saw a lifeguard drag Harjeet's body from the pool,' she continued. Her daughter was being given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and she was left 'shocked, scared and distraught'.
The inquest heard Harjeet, who lived with her family in Alwoodley, Leeds, was seen playing in the 1.2m-deep Treasure Pool at the Dome Leisure Centre just moments before she got into trouble. CCTV footage viewed by a ten-strong jury showed her perched on the side of a jacuzzi, playing on some airbeds and then splashing around with her uncle Rajinder Singh before he got out.
A short time later a woman swimmer could be seen pointing and shouting for a lifeguard. The child's motionless body was scooped from the water and taken to the poolside. But she could not be revived and died two hours later in Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The cause of death was given as drowning. Mrs Rathor had been at the Dome with her four children, her mother, who lives in Doncaster, and Harjeet's uncle and aunt and their one-year-old daughter.

Survivors of the genocide are still suffering and will die of cancer.
Three-year-old Sayed Mansour Abou Warda is one of the many children suffering from the white phosphorus attacks. (Inset) Sabah Abou Halimah, a burn victim who also lost her husband and children.FOR the victims of white phosphorus attacks, the horrific burns are just the beginning of their problems.
If past experiences are to be taken into account, those hit by the deadly chemical can expect to develop cancer within a year of the attack.
Al-Sifa Hospital Burn Unit surgeon Dr Aladdin Ali said white phosphorus burns are different and worse from those incurred in normal fires.
"Victims feel not only the burning sensation, but an unbearable itch, too.
"The burns cover a huge area of the body, eat up the flesh and sink down to the bone.
"It also affects other organs like the kidneys, and interferes with many bodily functions."
In normal burns, he said, bacterial infection usually sets in after more than a week. With white phosphorus, however, these kind of infections set in within a few days.
"From the past experience of doctors in Afghanistan and Lebanon, we found that victims develop cancer on the burn areas within 10 months of the attack."
Dr Ali said the 10 doctors in the burn unit had to work round-the-clock for 23 days in order to cope with the massive number of people with white phosphorus burns.
"I've lost count of the number of victims we saw. At that time, we were experiencing a severe shortage of equipment and medicine.
"Thank God with the ceasefire, we have had a chance to replenish our supplies."

The Story of KAULAN

A Qazi had a daughter by the name of Kaulan who was a disciple of Mian Mir. From her childhood she had occupied her mind praising God's Name and remembering Him in the company of the saints. Through the holy company of Mian Mir, she had heard praises of Guru Har Gobind Ji and she praised him several times in the midst of her own family. This incensed her father very much who addressed her,"O Infidel, you praise an infidel (Guru) and obey not the law of Mohammad, according to which it is forbidden, under penalty of death, to praise an infidel. After consulting his fellow Qazis, he issued an order for the execution of his daughter, Kaulan for her sin of transgressing the Muslim law. Kaulan's mother informed her daughter and Mian Mir about the order of the Qazi. Mian Mir recommended to Kaulan," There appears no means of saving you here. It is better if you go to Amritsar and seek protection of Guru Har Gobind Ji. None else but he can save your life." Kaulan heeded Mian Mir's advice and went to Amritsar. Kaulan began her life at Amritsar under the protection of the Guru. Guru Ji arranged for a separate house for her to be built. Kaulan found consolation in repeating the following Shabad:
"O mother, I awake by association with the saints; On seeing the love of the Beloved, I repeat His Name which is a treasure. Thirsting for a sight of Him, I long and look for Him; I have forgotten my desire for other things. I have found Guru, the giver of composure and peace; On beholding him, my mind is wrapped up in God. On seeing God pleasure hath arisen in my heart; Nanak dear to me is His ambrosial Word." (Kedara Mohalla 5, ANG 1119)
One day Kaulan took all her jewels and placed them before the Guru Ji and said, "O friend of the poor, please apply the price of these jewels to some religious object by which my name may be remembered in the world for sometime." The Guru got a tank excavated in her name with that money in 1621.
