A man is dead and his fiancee is fighting for her life after a suspected poisoning.
Couple 'poisoned' at restaurant
Lakhvinder Cheema, 39, was pronounced dead at London's West Middlesex Hospital after falling ill following a meal at a restaurant with his wife-to-be Gurjeeta Kaur.
Miss Kaur, 21, is seriously ill and being treated at the same hospital with her family by her bedside.
Mr Cheema's former lover, Lakhvir Kaur, is in custody after being arrested by detectives investigating the apparent poisoning.
A second person, a 54-year-old man, is also being held in connection with the inquiry in Windsor, Berkshire, Scotland Yard said.
Doctors suspect the couple consumed a cyanide-type poison but are divided over the exact substance, it is understood.
Further toxicology tests are taking place following a post-mortem examination at Fulham mortuary.
Officials from the Health Protection Agency were brought in by police after Mr Cheema died in the early hours of Wednesday.
They searched his modern semi-detached house in Princes Road, Feltham, west London, for potentially dangerous substances.
Girls Marry Frogs
Seven-year-old Indian girls 'marry' frogs
The young ‘brides’, Vigneswari and Masiakanni, hail from the village of Pallipudupet in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district. The wedding ceremony, a highlight of the annual Pongal (harvest) festival, was conducted to prevent the outbreak of mysterious diseases in the village.
The girls wore traditional gilded saris and gold jewellery and married their amphibian grooms in front of hundreds of villagers. The frogs were tied to long sticks decorated with garlands for the lavish marriage ceremonies. The subsequent celebrations had all the usual elements of a traditional marriage including a sumptuous feast.
Sadly, there was no fairy tale ending as neither frog transformed into a handsome prince. In fact, Vigneswari and Masiakanni weren’t even required to share a kiss with their husbands. Both brides simply bid their grooms farewell before returning to their normal lives. As for the frogs, they were thrown back into temple ponds after the ceremony.
The bizarre tradition of marrying frogs is rooted in the story of the Hindu God Shiva who turned himself into a frog following a quarrel with his wife Parvati. She cried for days causing disease to spread throughout local villages.
When the villages asked for help she sent them to find Shiva and plead with him to marry a young girl. She herself posed as the girl, and when Shiva agreed to marry her they returned to their original god forms and the outbreak was cured.
Dad threw girl, four, from bridge
Police said Freeman was involved in the custody battle and had appeared in a family court on Tuesday and Wednesday. The two other children had been in Freeman's car when he pulled over on the West Gate Bridge in morning rush-hour traffic and dropped the girl into the Yarra River, said Detective Inspector Steve Clark.
Stunned witnesses called police, who were able pull the girl from the river within 10 minutes of receiving the alert. She was barely alive, with multiple internal injuries. She was taken by helicopter to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital, where she died about four hours after the fall. "It's a dreadful set of circumstances," Supt Clark said. "Often you think you've seen it all but you haven't."
About an hour later, Freeman was arrested with the two surviving children outside the family court, where witnesses described him as visibly distressed, Supt Clark said. The bridge is an eight-lane road that is the main route from central Melbourne to the west. A court official said the custody hearing over the children had ended on Wednesday without a ruling because the parents had agreed to share access.
PAKISTAN - Another Honour Killing
The young woman, accused of having an extramarital relationship, was mauled by dogs and shot to death by her uncle, who has the protection of the tribal court in the area. A land dispute was at the center of the killing. Unanimous condemnation from the political world; human rights associations call for justice.
Islamabad (AsiaNews) - Another honor killing against a girl in Pakistan: the murder took place in the district of Khairpur, in the southern province of Sindh. It took place last March, although the news has come out only in the past few days.
Tasleem Solangi (in the photo), a 17-year-old girl, was accused without any proof of "immorality"
On March 7, 2008, Tasleem was killed with shocking ferocity: first, dogs were released on her, biting her legs repeatedly, until she fell to the ground. The dogs continued to maul her until her uncle, Zameer Solangi, shot her to death with a pistol. Tasleem's father had to watch helplessly as the massacre took place. He had been expected to sell some land to the uncle and his associates. The killing was also supported by a tribal judge in the area, Karim Bux, who exerted pressure on law enforcement to keep them from opening an investigation. In May, Karim gathered a jirga - tribal assembly - to judge the case, which "exonerated" the killers and "guaranteed them impunity."
Gul Sher, the girl's father, held a press conference in Karachi on Monday, October 27, denouncing the killing and calling for justice: he insisted that problems related to "a land dispute" were at the basis of the action, denying the charge of "immoral behavior" or infidelity on the part of his daughter. He also denounced the "false accusations" made against the young woman. Security forces have arrested her husband, Ibrahim Solangi, who has volunteered to confess to the crime.
The federal minister for women's development, Sherry Rehman, condemns the action, calling it "an inhuman crime," and promising that the government will do everything in its power to punish those who are guilty. The minister confirms that the uncle was responsible for the killing, following a land dispute with her father. The political world is also stigmatizing "honor killings," a barbarous practice still widespread in some areas of the country, as a custom among the tribal cultures in power there. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and the Asian Human Rights Commission are calling upon the government to hand over those responsible to justice, and to defend the rights of the vulnerable.
The parents of the girl who was killed have issued an appeal to Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari and to the chief justice of the province of Sindh, asking for "protection" against possible new violence, and for the arrest of those guilty.
Letter offers clues to death of 5 kids, 2 adults
Officers discovered the horrific scene after rushing to a home in Wilmington, prompted by the father's distraught letter faxed to a TV station describing a "tragic story" and a call to authorities.
"Why leave our children in someone else's hands?" Lupoe wrote in his letter faxed to KABC-TV. The station posted the letter on its Web site with some parts redacted.
All the victims were shot in the head, some multiple times, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. The killings may have occurred between Monday evening and early Tuesday, based on neighbors' accounts of firecracker sounds, he said.

Survivors of the genocide are still suffering and will die of cancer.
FOR the victims of white phosphorus attacks, the horrific burns are just the beginning of their problems.
If past experiences are to be taken into account, those hit by the deadly chemical can expect to develop cancer within a year of the attack.
Al-Sifa Hospital Burn Unit surgeon Dr Aladdin Ali said white phosphorus burns are different and worse from those incurred in normal fires.
"Victims feel not only the burning sensation, but an unbearable itch, too.
"The burns cover a huge area of the body, eat up the flesh and sink down to the bone.
"It also affects other organs like the kidneys, and interferes with many bodily functions."
In normal burns, he said, bacterial infection usually sets in after more than a week. With white phosphorus, however, these kind of infections set in within a few days.
"From the past experience of doctors in Afghanistan and Lebanon, we found that victims develop cancer on the burn areas within 10 months of the attack."
Dr Ali said the 10 doctors in the burn unit had to work round-the-clock for 23 days in order to cope with the massive number of people with white phosphorus burns.
"I've lost count of the number of victims we saw. At that time, we were experiencing a severe shortage of equipment and medicine.
"Thank God with the ceasefire, we have had a chance to replenish our supplies."

NY Sikh Victim of Brutal Racial Attack May Lose Vision UNITED SIKHS Works with NYPD to Ensure Attackers Charged with Hate Crime
Jackson Heights, New York, USA: Jasmir Singh, a 21-year-old Sikh college student was savagely attacked and stabbed in his left eye during an unprovoked attack on Sunday outside a grocery store in Queens, New York by three young men wielding a glass bottle. Jasmir sustained injuries to his left-eye, head, face, and back, and has not regained his vision after undergoing a five hour surgery when he received 18 stitches on his eye. Police arrested two of the suspected attackers nearby, but the third remains at large. The two arrested have been charged with assault in the first degree and robbery in the first degree, both serious felony charges. UNITED SIKHS is working with NYPD Community Affairs Liaison to urge police to charge the attackers additionally with hate/bias crime charges.
The incident took place at about 4am on Sunday on 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights. Jasmir Singh and his friend, Pierre Dizon, were returning home when they were confronted by three young men. Jasmir and Pierre attempted to walk away from the three men, but they would not allow them to leave. The men taunted Jasmir about his hair and beard, initially asking him why he did not cut it, and then threatening him that they were going to cut it. Jasmir and Pierre were able to enter the store to ask for assistance and call the police. The police department was on the phone when the three men entered the store, pulled Jasmir outside and began to beat him with a broken glass bottle. Jasmir was hit on his left eye causing it to rupture and bleed profusely, and they continued to beat him on his back, front torso, and head causing lacerations and bleeding. Pierre Dizon, of Filipino origin, was not attacked and escaped unharmed.
Police arrested two of the attackers after they were found hiding behind a house nearby, but the third remains at large. The two arrested are aged 21 years old and 16 years old, and one is of Hispanic decent and the other South Asian. Both have been charged with assault in the first degree and robbery in the first degree. UNITED SIKHS was alerted as to the attack by community leader Harpreet Singh Toor, and then shortly thereafter by Assemblyman Rory Lancman’s office.
UNITED SIKHS Legal Director Mejindarpal Kaur, was present at Elmhurst Hospital yesterday to assist the family and met the doctors who attended to Jasmir. According to Dr. Ravi of Elmhurst Hospital, Jasmir suffered a corneal laceration of the left eye and a ruptured globe which was stitched during a five hour surgery on Sunday involving 18 stitches.
“It is too early to tell if (Jasmir’s) vision will return as there is a lot of swelling in his left eye. He will be observed again on Friday to see if there is any sign of improvement to his vision,” said Dr. Murray Meltzer, who attended to Jasmir and is Professor of Ophthalmology and the Director of Ophthalmic Plastic and Orbital Surgery, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and an internationally known pioneer for surgical and microsurgery procedures in eye reconstruction.
A regular blood-donor who had volunteered with his father to distribute fliers of missing persons at ground zero in the aftermath of 9/11, Jasmir is a sophomore studying biomedical sciences at City College. When UNITED SIKHS team met with Jasmir, he had not eaten for the last three days because he said he had no appetite or desire to eat and was stoic even though in pain and sedated. “We live in a safe neighborhood and we never thought it unsafe to walk the streets at that hour. I thought they were going to cut my hair, and the next thing I had a broken bottle hit into my eye, head, front, and back torso and I could not see anything else as blood filled both my eyes,” stated Jasmir Singh.
Jasmir Singh’s father, Jiwan Singh, 54 years old, commented on his son’s condition stating, “I pleaded with the doctors to save my son's eyes when they told me that the damage was severe. I am thankful to the four doctors who stitched his eyeball. But my son's vision in his left eye has not returned.” Commenting on the incident, he stated, “This is the fourth hate crime against my family. I had been the victim of the three previous attacks since 9/11, one of which was a stabbing while I was riding a subway train. My wife and I both work to support our six children's education, three of whom including Jasmir are college going. If you visit our modest rented home where we have no beds and we all sleep on the floor, you will not think that we could afford to make ends meet, let alone support college education. We are in deep debt because of college fees, yet we were hopeful of our family’s future. As he wiped the tears that flowed from Jasmir’s damaged eye while waiting for medical attention in the eye clinic, he added “our grown son may never see again in his left eye.”
- "We will be reaching out to education trusts and the community for financial assistance to help Jasmir with his medical condition and his education, which will be a help at a time when he and his family has had to deal with a traumatic experience." The family is still unsure if their family medical plan will cover Jasmir's hospitalization and after care as he has reached the age of 21, said Mejindarpal Kaur, UNITED SIKHS legal director.
If you wish to assist Jasmir's family, you may donate online at http://www.unitedsikhs.org/donate or mail a check payable to UNITED SIKHS and marked "Jasmir Singh's education and medical treatment fund" to JAF POB 7203, NY, NY 10116.
"The swearing of President Obama is the high point of this week and the attack on this young man is the low point in the United States. Americans have to understand that everyone in this country is here to make this a better place; by seeing these assaults, Sikhs have begun to question whether we can truly move about freely after 9/11 since we are being attacked based on our appearance," stated community leader Harpreet Singh Toor.
Assemblyman Rory Lancman, elected State representative for the area commented, "I am utterly appalled by the vicious, racially motivated attack on Jasmir Singh, a young Sikh man from our community. I represent a large Sikh population, and Sikhs have experienced a wave of harassment and discrimination since 9/11. Queens will not tolerate racism or bigotry of any kind. This horrific crime goes against everything we, as Americans, believe and I urge all New Yorkers to root out racial and religious prejudice."
Jiwan Singh was thankful to both Assemblymen Rory Lancman and Jose Peralta who obtained a concession from the hospital to accommodate Jasmir, who was due to be discharged today, to be retained as an inpatient until Friday due to the non-conducive environment in his home.

Incidents from the life of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindrawale
The below are incidents narrated to me by people who all spent time with Sant Ji.
Before Becoming Jathedar Of Taksal
Sant Ji was performing a Sehaj Paath & the electricity in the building went. The Singhs who were there went outdoors due to the heat indoors and after a couple of hours they went back indoors. One of the Singhs went straight indoors and saw Sant was still doing Paath and he asked Sant Ji how have you been reciting the Paath whilst the electricity was gone (as Sant Ji had done Parkash of the Pothi and carried on as normal, even though the electricity had just come back - so he couldn't have set up the Pothis so quickly). Sant Ji said what can I say - the letters of Gurbani or shining to me in gold thus I could recite in the dark. (The guy he told this was a close companion of Sant Ji).
The Singhs went to Hemkunt Sahib and performed an Akhand Paath at the Gurdwara Sahib and one of Sant's friends had the midnight duty for Paath of 12am - 2am and he said he got lazy on the first night and asked Sant if he would do his duty - Sant Ji obliged and did all 4 hours to 4am. The next night this Singh got lazy again and asked Sant Ji to do the seva again, Sant Ji again obliged. This friend of Sant Ji then awoke at 4am and saw Sant Ji walking across the ice bare-footed as the sleeping quarters were a bit away from the Darbar. He asked Sant Ji if he was mad walking on ice and didn't he feel the cold - Sant Ji replied Dasmesh Pita looks after his Sikhs. (someone had taken Sant Ji's chapals while he was on the role/duty).
Before 1984 - Operation Blue Star
When Sant Ji was arrested he called in Bhai Kulwant Singh Nagoke (who was a Babbar) and told him to make sure that
Whilst in detention - Sant Ji was asked many questions by the interrogating officers one of the questions was:
- You are the 13th Jathedar of Damdami Taksal, the first Jathedar Baba Deep Singh fought on even though His head was chopped off. Do you think you are as powerful as Baba Deep Singh?
- Sant Ji replied - Chop my head off and test your theory (the police officers were shocked by the response and his audacity)
Yogi Harbhajan Singh was close friends with Indira Gandhi (they had the same Yoga teacher), he went and met Indira and said that he could easily kill Sant Ji if she wished (who was then at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib). A few days later Yogi came to Sri Darbar Sahib and Sant Ji called him up to meet him. Sant Ji started describing the room that Yogi had met Indira in and said there was a guy mouthing off saying he killed Sant - Sant Ji then said directly to Yogi - the Sant is before you if you want to kill him, go and have a pop.
Yogi got flustered and started sweating and Sant Ji laughed and said to the Singhs look it's cold weather and Yogi Ji has started sweating, run, go and fetch him water.
In Operation Blue Star - Unity With The Babbars
Many make up much gossip about animosity with the Babars and Sant Ji (there may have been a little bit - but nothing like the stories you hear). Anyway whilst the attack was going on Sant Ji wanted to send a message to
Interview with a close friend of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhaindrawale
This is an interview with a Singh who was very close to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. It explains the personality of Sant Jarnail Singh and teaches us so many things. I will urge others to write more about Jarnail Singh personality and other Singhs who sacrificed their lives for Sikhi Kaum in June-Galughara. Their love and sacrifice should always resides in our hearts. It reminds us this game of love and keep us alert from the Kaumi enemies.
“Was it odd for you that you used to have Sant Jarnail Singh as just your friend, and then he was suddenly in a high position like that?”
“No, we understood that he was now the head. And friendship is……. Well, the friendship was of course still there. But we now showed greater respect to him because of his position.”
He went on. “Sant Jarnail Singh Ji was not really very different as head of Damdami Taksal. He was just like he always was. He had a great peace of mind before he attained this position and after. He used to come to our rooms in the dormitory and we would laugh and laugh. He would ask about our troubles and problems and help us with them. He was so strict, too. If we would do anything wrong, he would not spare us!”
The Granthi laughed as he remembered, fondly, being disciplined by Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
“Would you say he was growing in his spiritual power during that time?”
“He had always made a strong impression on people, even before he was a Leader. He was the only person that virtually everybody respected. Even Sant Kartar Singh Ji, he would not treat Sant Jarnail Singh Ji as a student or a disciple, but as an equal, a real Gursikh. He felt his power.
“Sant Jarnail Singh Ji had so much respect for Gurbani and Guru. Once I know we were sleeping in the same room, and we used to just lie in the floor rather than using beds. There were some prayer books up in the rafters and one time one somehow got loose and fell down at Jarnail Singh Ji’s feet. He was sleeping and didn’t realize what had happened. When he got up and saw the book lying by his feet he cried, “This is an insult to Gurbani, how could I do that?” He was very disturbed about this and wouldn’t eat or sleep. Sant Kartar Singh Ji went to him and said, ‘Jarnail Singh, this is not your mistake. You didn’t do anything wrong.’ But Jarnail Singh was in such a pain that he read the whole of the Guru Granth Sahib as an apology.
“You only love Gurbani like that when you know it has provided you so much. There are some people who respect it for nothing, it’s just a gesture. Just because of tradition they bow before it. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji was not a tradition. He was the living image of Gurbani. If you wanted to see some Sikh out of the Guru Granth Sahib, Sant Jarnail Singh Ji was the one.”
Amarjit added, in a mood of nostalgia, “Sant Jarnail Singh was such a gentle man, a very loving and spiritual person. Everybody felt this from him. You would have really liked to know him.”
Characteristics of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindrawale
Poor Sikhs Or Simpletons?
It was Sunday and I had arrived at
According to my own nature, I told Sant ji exactly what Bhai Amrik Singh had said to me. Right away Sant ji became upset and called Bhai Amrik Singh and Bhai Rachpal Singh near him. He said "I need my "simpleton" friends much more than your friends with their dollars and pounds. Be Warned! No one should say anything unbecoming about these poor Sikhs.
The Giving Of "Medicine"
It was noontime. I was sitting alone with Sant ji. A very simple looking, middle aged Sikh couple from the villages came in. Their poverty was quite apparent. They gave their Fateh and put a cardboard box in front of Sant ji. The Sant asked "what is this?" They replied "it's medicine". Sant j then asked "Is it for me or someone else?" The poor Sikh replied "I don't know about that. If you want to keep it, you can. If you want me to give it to someone else, I'll take it there."
The Sant opened the lid of the box and emptied it into his lap. His lap filled with revolver and stengun bullets. Sant ji very lovingly thanked the villager couple and asked his sevadars to arrange for refreshments for them. Throughout this entire episode, Sant ji kept looking towards me and smiling. (note: in Punjabi "goli" means both bullet and medicine tablet)
Not An Ordinary 'Sant'
It was noon time. In Sant ji's room in Guru Nanak Nivaas, we (I, Bhai Amrik Singh and Bhai Rachpal Singh) were sitting on an extra manja beside Sant ji's bed. The Sangat was coming in to say Fateh one by one. In those that were coming, most were women and a bit of a crowd had formed. Without warning, Sant ji jumped onto his bed and stood up and was about to hit a very large woman with his teer (arrow). I, in a bit of panic, grabbed his hand and asked "What has happened?" I was of course a bit shocked.
He spoke in anger and said "You know what she was saying? She was asking for a son!"
There was no need to say much more. We told the Singh at the door to stop the flow of sangat for a while.
But this is clear, we usually hear about traditional 'Sants' giving children and women come to them to ask for boys. This is a pity for the entire society and this was and continues to be a very big problem in the Sikh world. Sant Bhindranwale was not only away from such practices, he was strongly against them.
Two Brigadiers
The days of Blue Star were approaching and people with various views often met Sant ji on the roof of the
Putting his hands on the mid-sized Brigadier's shoulders, Sant ji said "General Sahib, You've commanded very large armies. I'm a stupid Jat. What do I know about these things? You should read Gurbani. Doing that gives power."
An Important Meeting
It was a Sunday in May 1984. I arrived at Harmandar Sahib at 9 AM, and noticed an odd sadness everywhere. I came to the Parkarma and saw about 25 young men in yellow dastars with kamarkasas marching. In the room underneath the stairs of Guru Ram Das langar, Sant ji's companions used to plan out strategy and have meetings. All outsiders used to enquire here first.
I arrived there and asked Bhai Amrik Singh about the 25 men marching in the Parkarma. He answered "These Singhs are from Hazoor Sahib. They told the Kar Seva Babas that until the existing Gurdwaras are secured and protected, there is no need to build new Gurdwaras." Today I think that these young men had arrived from all over after receiving training, all according to Sant ji's strategy. Their march was to give warning to the government.
Bhai Amrik Singh said that in a little while the Jatha (Jatha Bhindran) would be having an important meeting on the roof of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib. "Sant ji has asked that you (Dalbir Singh) should certainly come to this meeting." I said that "I am neither a member of the Jatha, nor even Amritdhari, how can I go to this meeting?" Bhai Sahib asked Sant ji on the intercom and said Sant ji wanted to speak to me in person. After answering my Fateh, he forcefully said "Gurmukha, you must come to the meeting." Answering my concerns, he said "I'm the head of the Jatha, and it is my decision to make about who can attend the meeting and who cannot".
At around 10 AM, I, Bhai Amrik Singh and others went to the highest roof of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib where the meeting was to take place. Because there were too many Singhs and not enough room, they had made an "L" shape around the dome. Tyaar-bar-tyaar Singhs with yellow dastars, yellow kamarkassas and knee length cholas and kachheras, with their weapons facing sky-ward were giving an amazing sight. This sight can be seen in paintings of puratan times. I took a place in the corner facing Harmandar Sahib.
Sant ji came and stood in a corner. He could see all the Singhs form this spot. In his pure Punjabi, Sant ji said "Singho, I have called your meeting because the situation is very serious. A Jatha has come from Sri Hazoor Sahib and you should arrange weapons for them. Whoever amongst you have two weapons, should return one. You may choose which weapon you want to keep, because later on, there will be no changes. After this, Sant ji's assistant Bhai Rachpal Singh took his small diary and began to take an account of the 100 Singhs' weapons. This took about half an hour.
Then Sant ji resumed his speech. He said "Singho, the government will according to its strategy surrounded us with 100,000 soldiers. It is possible that jets and helicopters could be used and parachute soldiers could be dropped onto the parkarma. But until then, you will not fire any weapons, until the soldiers fire. Let the government fire first. Until the soldiers jump from the planes, do not fire. But when they do, not one parachutist should land alive. Don't waste ammunition and you should take one life with each bullet at least.
If the enemy comes very close, distribute the Ladoos (hand grenades). This will be a very terrifying incident but taking the support of Guru Ram Das ji's feet, we will pass this test."
Sant ji said some other things and then finished his speech. He stopped for a while and then according to his habit, he took his lower lip into the left side of his mouth and began to think of something. He would do this when he was double-minded about something. After a minute or two of silence he spoke in very drawn out voice "Singho, I have to speak to you about another issue as well." He looked towards me and said "Bhaeeyaa, should I do it?" I understood what was in his heart and said he should do it.
In a very serious mood, Sant ji said "Singho, that which is going to happen will be very shocking and we should go according to the will of Akal Purakh. I can't say that at that time what the status on my life will be. If at that time I have breaths, I will tell the name of the next head of the Jatha, if this is not what pleases Akal Purakh, then the next head should be chosen by consensus. My body should be cremated at Gurduara Gurdarshan Parkaash Mehta, on the street in front of the gate. Taking his right elbow onto his left palm, he said "Put a Nishan Sahib of about this size there. Don't make any memorial. I want my cremation on the road so that the Sangat can continue to pass over my pyre and I'll get the touch of their feet." Everyone's eyes were teary after hearing Sant ji's words.
In his clear voice he said, "Don't lose heart. Remain steadfast. The time has come when the Dharam cannot be protected without giving our heads."
After this, all the Singhs quietly went to their own resting spots. When walking, Sant ji put his hand on my shoulder and said "Brother, keep your duty of friendship to the end [yaaree nibhaaee(n)]"
After this, Blue Star happened and it remained a very big weight on my mind that who should I talk to about all this? After a lot of thought I shared this with the late Sd. Jagjit Singh, the respected scholar of Gurbani and Sikh principles and the author of the book "Sikh Revolution". I asked why the Sant had called me into that meeting. He said very softly to me, "Dalbir Singh, the reason is quite simple. The Sant had given a spoken final testament and without writing it down, he made you a witness to it."

Overcoming Mourning
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji – How to overcome mourning
A Sikh once came into the darbar of Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj asked this question, "O True Emperor, holy men have risen above worldly attachment. By what thought are they aided? Attachment is a very chronic ailment of mankind. By what method have they risen above this? Please, be kind and explain it to us."
"I will tell you the way the saints have conquered attachment to the world. They regard the material possessions as a dream. Just as what you see in a dream, does not exist when you wake up, in the same way saints have woken up to the real knowledge (gyan). All objects of the world appear to be transient to them," explained Maharaj.
Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji then began to tell a story, "There was a saint, who had attained a high spiritual stage. Living in the midst of the world, he remained above its pleasures and sorrows. Someone came and informed him that his son had died. The saint did not express any grief at the news. The people talked about the son thus, 'Sant ji, your son was very handsome and young. He was also very learned. At his death all others expressed their shock. But you have not mourned his death. What considerations have influenced your mind?'
"During the night I saw a dream in which I was a king. I married and got a son. But when I woke up, there was neither kingdom, nor wife and son. On waking from this dream, I heard the news that my son of the world of consciousness had died. Then I went to my Gurdev and told him of my miserable plight. 'Swami ji,' I said, 'not only has my dream world disappeared, but my real son also is no more. What should I do now? I am overwhelmed with grief.'
"Give up mourning over both, for the whole universe is an illusion, the dream world and the conscious world. What is an illusion does not deserve mourning over. Illusion means that in fact nothing was created, or exists. Uncreated objects enter our vision, in dreams or in the conscious world. Therefore, stop mourning over both,' explained my Gurdev to me, and the reality clearly dawned in my mind. For this reason, I am not affected by sorrows or pleasures of the world.' This is the way saints have risen above worldly attachments," concluded the Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, the king of kings and the saint of saints.
The way to the ultimate state of mind is to read Gurbani and follow the teachings and ask for Guru Ji’s grace.
Da Khalsa is Distinct
“Jab lag khalsa rahe naira, tab lag tej dioon mein sara jab eh gaye bipran ki reet, mein na karoon in ki parteet” - Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (Sarbloh Granth)
“As long as the Khalsa remains distinct I will give them my full support and glory, but if they follow empty rituals I will not aid them”
You are probably wondering what “bipran ki reet” is and what it has to do with Sikhi. Well, the answer is very simple. Bipran ki reet is a phase which refers to the principles of Brahmins (Hinduism) the phrase itself is derived from two words: “bipar” meaning Brahmins and “reet” meaning principle. Combined these two terms make bipran ki reet which is used as a reference to a distancing from Sikh principles and following of some sort of mindless rituals. So in other words following Bipran ki reet is going away from Sikhi.
Some Brahmin rituals we follow:
Rakri, Lorhi, Fasting, superstitions.
Baba Buddha Ji
Baba Buddha was the great Sikh saint who had the pleasure of serving under the first six Gurus. A venerated primal figure of early Sikhism.
When he was a young boy, ha was grazing cattle outside his village when Guru Nanak Dev Ji passed by. According to Bhai Mani Singh in Sikhism di Bhagat Mala, Bura went up to the Guru Ji presented him with a bowl of milk as his offering. He said to Guru Ji: 'O sustainer of the poor! Iam fortunate to have had a sight of you today. Absolve me now from the cycle of birth and death.'The Guru replied, 'You are only a child, yet you speak so wisely.' Some soldiers set up camp by our village,'replied Bura, 'and they mowed down all our crops-ripe as well as unripe. Then it occurred to me that, when no one could check these indiscriminating soldiers, who would restrain Death from laying his hand upon us, young or old.' At this Guru Nanak Dev Ji replied: 'You are not a child; you possess the wisdom of an old man.' From that day, Bura, came to be known as BHAI BUDDHA. Buddha in Punjabi meaning is an old man. And later, when advanced in years, he became known as BABA BUDDHA.
He devoted himself passionately to tasks such as the digging of the baoli at Goindval under the instructions of Guru Amar Das Ji and the excavation of the sarover at
Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji had no offspring by Mata Ganga Ji. The Guru told Mata Ganga Ji to go and see Baba Buddha. She did as the Guru asked and went to Baba Buddha Ji. Baba Ji broke an onion and predicted that she will have a son who will break the heads of the enemies like this, and destroy the cruel oppressors. This blessing proved to be true as later Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was born to her and who lived up to the above expectations. 'Dal Bhanjan Gur Sooma'.
Guru Hargobind Ji was placed under Baba Buddha ji’s instructions and training. When the Adi Granth (Guru Granth Sahib Ji) was installed in the Harimandar Sahib on 16 August 1604, Baba Buddha Ji was appointed as the first ever granthi by Guru Arjan Dev Ji. He became the first high priest of the sacred shine, now known as the
Baba Buddha passed his last days in meditation at Jhanda Ramdas, or simply called Ramdas, a village founded by his son, Bhai Bhana. As the end came, on 16 November 1631, Guru Hargobind Ji was at his bedside. The Guru, as saying the Gurbilas Chhevin Patshahi, gave his shoulder to Baba Ji and performed the last rites. Two shrines stand in Ramdas commemorating Baba Buddha, Gudwara Tap Asthan Baba Buddha Ji, where the family lived on the southern edge of the village, and Gudwara Samadhan, where he was cremated.
Baba Bhuddha adopted the Sikh faith and lived an excellent GurSikh living. As a result he came to be respectfully known as 'Baba Buddha' and honorably earned some of the highest Gurughar honors. He had the privilege to serve, enjoy the company, and receive blessings of first six Gurus.
